Nine blockchain organizations have formed the Quantum Alliance to develop open standards for evaluating quantum resistance across networks, wallets and infrastructure. The group estimates that approximately 6 million BTC, representing more than 30% of the total supply, are exposed to quantum attacks. The entire $2.9 trillion crypto market still relies on vulnerable classical signatures, with some forecasts suggesting practical quantum threats could emerge around 2028 or 2029. The alliance will organize its work into four groups focusing on blockchain migration, post-quantum zero-knowledge systems, wallet security and cross-chain compatibility, following an open process modeled on the Internet Engineering Task Force.
