Abdulrahman Alfozan, a former product engineer at OpenAI, was arrested on October 9, 2026 and charged by the FBI with allegedly planting an audio recording device in a high-security executive conference room at the company’s San Francisco headquarters. A second device was found in his personal bag on October 5, and security footage captured him near the room on multiple occasions. OpenAI used its own AI models to help identify the alleged perpetrator. Alfozan, a Saudi national and US lawful permanent resident since 2020, had booked a one-way flight to Saudi Arabia for October 12, just three days after his arrest. If convicted, he faces up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
