Starknet has launched a seven-day non-binding vote, closing on Oct. 22, asking STRK holders whether to explore evolving into an independent post-quantum layer-1 blockchain. The goal is to reduce Starknet’s dependence on Ethereum’s quantum-security upgrade timeline, including its bridge and data availability. A favorable vote would not trigger an automatic transition: further proposals and governance votes would be required, and no timetable for a layer-1 shift has been announced. StarkWare unveiled a three-phase quantum-resistance roadmap in June, while Ethereum established a dedicated post-quantum team in March aiming for initial protocol-level protections by 2029. Starknet CEO Eli Ben-Sasson said the objective is to make Starknet the first fully quantum-resistant network by 2027.
