OpenAI is in talks to acquire Trail of Bits, a cybersecurity firm respected in the crypto ecosystem, with clients including Arbitrum, Uniswap, and Aave. This potential acquisition comes after the discovery of a sophisticated recording device in an OpenAI conference room at company headquarters, planted by an engineer arrested by the FBI. The firm has audited nine blockchain ecosystems and previously collaborated with OpenAI on the “Patch the Planet” initiative. Despite Trail of Bits’ expertise, several DeFi projects it audited have suffered exploits, including Balancer with a $129 million loss and Bunni Finance with an $8 million loss.
