General Catalyst is building a data center to provide servers and GPUs to its portfolio startups, which are facing severe hardware shortages needed to train and run their artificial intelligence models. According to sources cited by The Information, the facility will serve both early-stage companies and more mature ones, with a dedicated compute cluster for startups with high token consumption. This initiative falls under General Catalyst’s $1.5 billion “Creation Strategy”, focused on AI-native companies built around artificial intelligence from day one. The approach relies on shared compute pools, allowing founders to draw from a common capacity rather than negotiating individually for scarce resources. The firm hired Alexis Black Bjorlin, a former Nvidia executive, as Chief Strategy Officer in May 2026, without disclosing the data center’s location, capacity, or construction cost.
