Share

Turkish police and intelligence officers detained Richard Heart, founder of the Hex cryptocurrency, in Istanbul on Wednesday morning on an Interpol Red Notice, in coordination with MIT. Finland had requested the notice in 2024 for aggravated tax fraud. Heart, whose legal name is Richard James Schueler, was arrested alongside his wife in the Beşiktaş district, where police had been monitoring his address. Authorities seized a dozen mobile phones, several laptops, graphics cards, firearms, drones, gold bracelets and a large amount of cash in different currencies. The U.S. SEC had charged him in 2023 with raising more than $1 billion in unregistered crypto asset offerings, but the case was dismissed without action in February 2025.
