84 % of tokens processed on OpenRouter now flow through non-frontier models, delivering approximately 77 % of the performance of leading models at just 2.5 % of the price. The average cost of these non-frontier models stands at about $0.50 per million tokens, compared to $20 for premium solutions like Claude Fable 5. Price reductions by providers are driving significant usage increases: OpenAI saw GPT-5.6 Luna usage surge 14-fold after an 80 % price cut, generating 34 % additional revenue. Chinese models now account for over 30 % of token consumption by US companies on the platform, up from 4.5 % in early 2025. OpenRouter aggregates over 400 models from more than 80 providers, processing hundreds of trillions of tokens monthly.
