Anthropic’s daily code merges jumped tenfold from approximately 2,500 in May 2026 to over 30,000 by September 2026, driven by its AI coding tool Claude Code. Claude now writes more than 80% of Anthropic’s merged production code, compared to single digits before February 2025. The surge forced the company to replace Git with a custom-built version control system called Scion, a migration completed in five months. Claude also autonomously generated 388 maintenance pull requests, with roughly 46% merged after human review. Anthropic sells Claude Code to external developers and uses its own engineering operations as a large-scale stress test for the product.
