Microsoft aims to make Copilot the Costco of AI

Microsoft unveiled on September 25, 2026 a unified Copilot app organized into three sections: Home, Code, and Autopilot. The pricing model combines a flat subscription of approximately $30 per user per month with usage-based billing for complex tasks, plus volume discounts reaching 50% for organizations with more than 10,000 seats. The company had over 30 million paid Copilot seats by June 2026, representing about 7% of its base of over 450 million Microsoft 365 commercial licenses. Microsoft is also shifting workloads to its own internal MAI models to reduce reliance on OpenAI and Anthropic, which helps explain its ability to offer these substantial discounts.
