Lucas, a 22-year-old video game developer in Saint-Juéry in the Tarn region of France, was targeted in early September by two armed and hooded individuals who broke into his home around 3 a.m. in an attempt to extort his cryptocurrencies. Threatened with a firearm and struck on the head, he managed to drive off his attackers by using a tear gas canister in his bedroom. The National Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime recorded more than 70 kidnappings and sequestrations linked to cryptocurrencies in France during the first eight months of 2026. Lucas has since sold all his cryptocurrencies and filed a complaint, while the attackers remain at large more than a month after the events, with the investigation being overseen by the Albi prosecutor’s office for aggravated extortion.
