Vice President JD Vance accused Microsoft of replacing the 6,000 workers it laid off in 2025 with H-1B visa holders. The Trump administration suspended eight companies from the Labor Department’s PERM program, which allows employers to sponsor foreign workers for green cards. According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services data, Microsoft received 6,258 H-1B approvals in fiscal 2025, ranking third behind Amazon (19,178) and Meta (6,294), neither of which were suspended. Two-thirds of Microsoft’s H-1B approvals went to workers already employed by the company.
