Unlike these tech giants that offer free meals, Nvidia charges its employees for cafeteria food, although it remains subsidized and has been for over a decade. In 2014, subsidized meals cost about $6 on average. The company prefers offering employees the opportunity to purchase stock at discounted prices rather than free food. The stock price has risen over 1,000% in the past five years, creating far more value than a free lunch would.
