OpenAI’s market cap odds drop from 80% to just above 50% amid IPO delay

Traders on Polymarket once gave OpenAI an 80% chance of reaching a market cap above $1.5 trillion. Those odds have since dropped to 58%, barely better than a coin flip, after the company pushed its IPO timeline from late-2026 to 2027. CEO Sam Altman cited safety as the main reason for the delay, while stating any valuation under $1 trillion would be unacceptable. In March 2026, OpenAI had raised $122 billion at a post-money valuation of $852 billion, and discussions are underway for a new round of at least $30 billion at approximately $1.4 trillion pre-money.
