Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments, built with Coinbase and Stripe, enables AI agents to pay for purchases using stablecoins within preset spending limits. The Reserve Bank of Australia flagged on October 6 the lack of clear liability rules when an agent exceeds buyer instructions. Mastercard forecasts 324 million chargebacks globally by 2028, with an average US cost of $128 per chargeback. Amazon blocked Meta’s Muse shopping agent, illustrating the platform conflict over customer interface control. Without a neutral dispute resolution process, merchants may raise fees or block AI purchases, favoring dominant platforms.
