Nvidia’s funding seen as key for US AI firms to compete with China

Training Reflection AI’s Beam model costs approximately $100 million, compared to just a few million for leading Chinese models. Nvidia has built a portfolio of stakes in AI startups reaching approximately $99 billion by mid-2026, while also signing a $6 billion licensing and investment deal with Poolside in August 2026. Chinese labs like DeepSeek, GLM and Kimi have been shipping highly capable, low-cost models, putting real pressure on Western developers. Beam claims 3-4x better inference efficiency than China’s GLM 5.2, potentially giving US labs a competitive edge on total cost of ownership rather than training cost alone.
