The National Bank of Kazakhstan, Tether, and the Alatau authority have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a tenge-pegged stablecoin and real asset tokenization. No emission has been decided at this stage: the parties first intend to analyze similar initiatives abroad before preparing a pilot proposal. Tether’s Hadron platform is among the technologies under consideration, with a pilot planned in Alatau’s special legal regime. Tether issues USDT, the world’s leading stablecoin with 140 billion dollars in circulation, as well as XAUT, a tokenized gold product worth approximately 3.3 billion dollars. The memorandum provides Tether with an official entry point to a central bank, amid increasing competition in the stablecoin market.
