Poll shows most US voters believe Trump, Congress neglect AI risks

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from September 30 to October 5, 2026, among 3,526 registered voters reveals that 69 % of Americans want stricter regulation of artificial intelligence. 57 % of respondents believe the Trump administration is not taking AI risks seriously enough, and 54 % say Congress is also falling short. Job concerns dominate: 84 % of respondents view AI as a threat to American workers, and 77 % fear job losses in specific professions. The survey also shows that 56 % of voters support limiting the construction of new data centers, whose high energy consumption has become a political issue.
