Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade activated on the Sepolia testnet on October 6 at epoch 353 024, raising the gas limit per block from 60 to 200 million, more than three times the previous ceiling. This test evaluates the network’s ability to handle blocks three times larger ahead of mainnet deployment targeted for Q4 2026. The late release of the Prysm client version 7.2.1, just hours before the test, had threatened to compromise the reliability of results. Among other changes, ePBS separates block proposers from builders, access lists prepare for parallelization, and two EIPs overhaul gas pricing. The other testnet, Hoodi, is scheduled to follow on October 27, before Hegotá in 2027.
