Donald Trump announced on Sunday, October 4, the creation of the ‘Super Intelligence Force’, a federal working group on artificial intelligence led by Jay Clayton, former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and current director of national intelligence. This former head of the U.S. securities regulator is best known for launching 57 enforcement actions against the crypto sector between 2017 and 2020, including the landmark lawsuit against Ripple, which resulted in a 125 million dollar fine. The working group, which also includes Andrew Ferguson (FTC), Emil Michael (Pentagon) and Scott Kupor, has 120 days to assess risks and make recommendations on the federal government’s role in AI oversight. This appointment places a former financial regulator at the center of America’s artificial intelligence strategy.
