Ethereum’s Sepolia testnet activated the Glamsterdam upgrade on October 6, 2026 at 13:53:36 UTC, at epoch 353,024. This upgrade raises the optional gas limit to 200 million units, up from roughly 60 million previously, representing more than a threefold increase in capacity. Glamsterdam combines two upgrade tracks: Amsterdam for the execution layer and Gloas for the consensus layer. The main feature is enshrined proposer-builder separation, defined in EIP-7732, which institutionalizes within the protocol the distinction between the block assembler and the validator who proposes them. No immediate changes are planned for mainnet, whose final gas limit parameters remain to be determined.
