Adam Neumann, the cofounder of WeWork, is back in the entrepreneurship game with Flow after the collapse of his company from a $47 billion valuation to bankruptcy. He claims his downfall began during a car ride with SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son in late 2016, when Son offered him $4.4 billion, shifting his focus away from the company’s original mission. WeWork reported a net loss of $1.9 billion in 2018 and failed its IPO attempt in August 2019 due to mounting losses and Neumann’s outsized control, leading him to step down as CEO that September. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2023 with nearly $19 billion in debt. Neumann is now launching Flow, a residential real estate startup backed by Andreessen Horowitz with a $350 million investment, and says he is happier today.
