Community Bankers Sue OCC Over Crypto Firms’ National Trust Charters

The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) has sued the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in federal court in Washington, D.C. The complaint filed on October 2 alleges the OCC lacks the authority to charter non-fiduciary crypto firms as national trust banks. The lawsuit also names Comptroller Jonathan Gould personally. This legal action challenges the OCC’s practice of allowing cryptocurrency companies to obtain national trust bank status.
