He stated that algorithms “lack the spark of humanity.” The Vatican aims to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to “safeguard our humanity.” This stance follows a May encyclical titled “Magnifica Humanitas” on protecting people in the age of AI, and a September 25 speech in Paris. In March, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Thaler v. Perlmutter, upholding that copyright requires a human author.
