Trump unveils voluntary AI safety accord with six tech giants

On September 29, 2026, Donald Trump hosted at the White House the leaders of six major AI companies to announce a voluntary AI safety agreement. The signatories (Anthropic, Google, Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI and xAI) committed to a four-tier framework including internal monitoring, empowered safety teams, independent auditors and board-level committees. The agreement, formally called the « Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities », remains non-binding with no penalties or enforcement mechanisms. This initiative follows the voluntary commitments established under President Joe Biden’s administration in 2023 and seeks to prevent stricter federal regulation for the sector.
