Mark Ruffalo says Paramount’s $111 billion Warner Bros. deal ‘Will stifle creativity, weaken free speech, and cost people their jobs’

Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín approved on September 30 Paramount’s settlement with 12 state attorneys general, clearing the last legal obstacle to the approximately $111 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. Mark Ruffalo, a fierce opponent of the deal, condemned the ruling on X, stating the merger will « stifle creativity, weaken free speech, and cost people their jobs ». The settlement requires the combined company to release at least 30 films in theaters per year for the first two years and spend an additional $300 million per year on U.S. film production. Ynon Kreiz, CEO of Mattel, will join Paramount on October 5 as co-CEO alongside David Ellison.
