A study by Galaxy Research published on October 1, 2026 reveals that 69.2% of the 2.9 million individual active accounts on Polymarket end up below the profitability threshold, with cumulative losses totaling 338.9 million dollars. Sports bettors are the hardest hit, with only 25.1% of accounts turning a profit, compared to 41.2% for the Tech and Science categories. Conversely, automated accounts (over 50 trades per day) generated 246.8 million dollars in net gains. User behavior also shows that losers are 2.5 times more likely not to bet again within 30 days following a loss. Polymarket is also facing several legal challenges, notably from the State of New York, and has seen transaction fees of 2 to 3.5% added since March 2026.
