Vestas, the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer with over 201 gigawatts installed across 36 countries, reported operating profit of 446 million euros in the latest quarter, up from 57 million euros a year earlier, with an order backlog of 36 billion euros. CEO Henrik Andersen warns against Chinese competition led by Goldwind, which installed nearly 30 gigawatts in 2025, double Vestas’s output, benefiting from state subsidies three to eight times higher than those of OECD companies, enabling prices up to 50% lower. Europe imports more than half of the energy it consumes, a dependency Andersen describes as his primary concern, urging the continent to “protect energy security the way it protects its borders”.
