Bitcoin O.G. Peter Todd has joined the MARA Foundation as lead maintainer of Slipstream, MARA’s private Bitcoin mempool service. In this role, Todd will be responsible for developing and running the service, which allows users to send Bitcoin transactions directly to MARA Pool without going through the public peer-to-peer network. The service gained attention after hackers exploited Coldcard hardware wallets in July, stealing over $115 million in user funds, as it helps protect users by keeping transactions private until they are confirmed in a block. Todd is a longtime Bitcoin Core contributor, co-author of BIP 125 and creator of OpenTimestamps, who argues that mempool policy should follow what miners want to mine rather than restrict Bitcoin usage.
