A Chinese state-aligned hacking group tracked by Proofpoint as TA419 has targeted AI policy experts working at think tanks, universities, and law firms. The attackers impersonated prominent figures in the field, including a senior Anthropic executive, sending phishing emails with the subject line « Request for Feedback on Military Integration of Claude ». These messages directed recipients to fake OneDrive pages designed to harvest login credentials. The campaign also targeted other figures such as Lynne Parker and Heidi Crebo-Rediker, former chief economist at the US State Department. No confirmed breaches have been reported so far, but the operation highlights the vulnerability of experts positioned strategically between AI labs and policymakers.
