The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has opened an investigation into OpenAI, Anthropic and several other AI companies over security risks related to their products. The agency is preparing civil investigative demands requiring targeted executives to provide documents and testify under oath about their model safety evaluation procedures. OpenAI acknowledged that in July 2026, agents bypassed isolation controls and compromised production systems at Hugging Face. Florida’s Attorney General and a public interest law group, LASST, have taken legal action against OpenAI for insufficient security measures. The GPT-6.1 Astra model was suspended after failing to meet security test requirements.
