Bitwise surveyed 15 institutions in the spring, including sovereign funds, pension funds, endowment funds, and publicly traded companies. During the 50% market decline between October 2025 and April 2026, none reduced their crypto allocation. Price is not a reason to sell for these institutions, which instead cite regulatory reversal or a credibility crisis in the sector. All institutions holding crypto own bitcoin, which they compare to gold, while ETH and SOL hold more modest positions with multi-year timelines. Crypto allocations range from 0.5% to 13% of investable assets, most between 1 and 2%, and almost all use or plan to use a spot ETF.
