The Bitget hack split the cross-chain market into two products

The $388 million Bitget hack exposed a fundamental divide among cross-chain services, with NEAR Intents blocking over $50 million in transfers linked to the theft through its SHIELD screening system, while THORChain processed roughly $6.3 million in swaps from the attacker without blocking the addresses. Circle and Tether froze about $320,000 in USDC and USDT respectively, bringing the total recovered to under $820,000, a negligible fraction of the total drained. NEAR is holding the intercepted $503,000 pending legal proceedings and waived Bitget’s recovery bounty, raising questions about the absence of a published process for wrongly flagged users to retrieve their funds.
