BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, published a report arguing that stablecoins are the most suitable solution for machine-to-machine payments generated by autonomous AI systems. Stablecoin circulating supply crossed $300 billion by September 2026, while adjusted transaction volume topped $11 trillion in 2025 alone, with compounded annual growth of approximately 80% since 2020. Analysts project cloud industry revenues from Amazon, Microsoft, and Google to reach roughly $1.1 trillion by 2030, and cumulative AI infrastructure investment between 2025 and 2030 could exceed $5 trillion. Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC dominate the market by volume, but the AI-payments use case could create demand for stablecoins optimized for specific characteristics such as programmability depth or cross-chain interoperability.
