U.S., Iran hold separate mediator talks as Mideast oil exports hit war-time high

The United States and Iran held separate indirect talks with mediators on Monday to end seven months of Middle East conflict. Tehran is demanding that Washington lift oil sanctions, release frozen funds and end the naval blockade of Iranian ports within four to five days in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump rejected the Iranian plan as unacceptable on Sunday. Middle Eastern crude exports rebounded this month to their highest level since the war began, at just under 80 percent of pre-conflict levels, according to Kpler data. U.S. retail diesel prices are hovering near a record high of $6.53 a gallon and the Trump administration is again weighing an export ban that would keep roughly 1.2 million barrels per day at home.
