THORChain refuses to block Bitget funds, despite pausing after own hack

THORChain has turned down a formal request to refuse service to addresses linked to the Bitget hack, a centralized crypto exchange that lost over $380 million on Thursday night. The hack was attributed to North Korean hacker organizations by Bitget CEO Gracy Chen and blockchain security firm SlowMist. THORChain, which itself halted trading in May after a $10 million hack, justified its decision by citing its decentralized and permissionless nature. The protocol processed $678 million in the two days following the Bitget hack, generating nearly $1.2 million in gross system income. THORChain had previously been used to move funds from the $1.5 billion ByBit hack in February, also linked to North Korean hackers.
