U.S. authorities have ordered the forfeiture of approximately $84.2 million held in accounts linked to Capstone Limited, a payment firm suspected of routing hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of Tether and Bitfinex through the U.S. banking system without proper licensing. The funds are spread across accounts at Wells Fargo Securities ($79.11 million), Wells Fargo Bank ($1.86 million), JPMorgan Chase ($2.06 million), and two wallets containing roughly $1.18 million in USDT. EQIBank, the digitally licensed bank in Dominica that reportedly instructed Capstone, estimates the seizure at nearly $89 million, representing approximately 80% of its monetary assets. Tether has stated that its exposure to EQIBank accounts for less than 0.034% of its total assets, limiting the direct risk to its reserves. No criminal charges have been filed against Capstone, EQIBank, Tether, or Bitfinex at this stage.
