Google is currently testing a feature in India that allows its AI assistant Gemini to make direct purchases from Flipkart, one of the country’s largest e-commerce platforms. The limited test began in October 2026 and relies on the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard introduced in January 2026 that enables communication between AI systems and retailer databases. Google Pay serves as the primary payment method, while UPI payments through Razorpay are also being explored for the Indian market. Retailers remain the official sellers of the products.
