Like Jamie Dimon, Databricks CEO hates days with too many meetings. He says it means he gets nothing done and he’s just got ‘monkeys on his back’

Databricks, valued at $190 billion, is one of Silicon Valley’s fastest-growing software companies. CEO Ali Ghodsi has revealed he keeps his calendar mostly empty, meeting only three times a week with his team to identify and solve the company’s biggest bottleneck. He considers back-to-back meetings to mean being ‘a slave to his calendar’ and having ‘monkeys on his back’. This view is shared by other prominent CEOs, including JPMorgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon, who explicitly urged to ‘Kill meetings’ in his shareholder letter. According to a 2024 Atlassian survey, nearly three out of four meetings are ineffective and 77% of respondents say meetings create more meetings.
