A one-week coding challenge reduced the estimated cost of a quantum-safe Bitcoin transaction by 79%, dropping from roughly $320 to $66 to $67. StarkWare, in partnership with Yukon Research and Eigen Labs, received 62 submissions that accelerated processing six times faster on identical hardware. Benchmark tests on an RTX 4090 GPU showed pinning speed jumping from about 146 million to over 880 million verified candidates per second. This optimization remains experimental and has not yet been demonstrated in a second transaction mined on the mainnet. It aims to prepare a contingency against the theoretical threat of a sufficiently powerful quantum computer capable of breaking Bitcoin’s cryptography.
