The Béthune prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation after a crypto-industry IT specialist and his family were held captive at their home in Vendin-le-Vieil, northern France. On the night of September 20, four masked assailants forced the victim to transfer approximately 40,000 euros in digital assets during a home invasion lasting nearly three hours. The father and his 12-year-old daughter sustained minor injuries. The suspects remain at large. France has recorded more than 70 crypto-related violent incidents during the first eight months of 2026, representing nearly 80% of all documented cases across Europe.
