US seeks $61M in USDT allegedly tied to sanctioned Iranian oil sales

The US Department of Justice is seeking the forfeiture of $61.19 million in USDT, alleging the funds came from black-market sales of sanctioned Iranian oil and were intended to finance Iran’s government and military, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Blessed Trust and Hexa Whale, both incorporated in Hong Kong, allegedly used Binance accounts to move proceeds from oil sold to buyers in China. The associated network reportedly received and distributed over $1.5 billion, with transfers to IRGC-linked money-transfer businesses. Tether froze these funds across 10 Tron network addresses in 2025. The action comes amid the US-Israel war with Iran, which is pushing oil prices higher (Brent at $107.59 per barrel).
