The Layer-1 blockchain Aptos approved proposal AIP-140, a comprehensive tokenomics overhaul introducing a hard supply cap of 2.1 billion APT, reducing staking rewards from 5.19% to 2.6%, and increasing gas fees tenfold, with 100% permanently burned. Circulating supply stood at approximately 1.196 billion APT at the time of the vote, leaving 904 million APT of headroom for future emissions. Since mainnet launch in October 2022, roughly 1.8 million APT had been burned by mid-September 2026. The Aptos Foundation also permanently locked and staked 210 million APT, representing approximately 18% of circulating supply.
