Cybercrime in India: They Meet in Prison Before Setting Up Their Scams

Police in Pimpri-Chinchwad, near Pune, are investigating a digital fraud of 8.6 million rupees, approximately 78,000 euros. Two suspects, Tejas Lokhande, 24, and Avinash Baklike, 28, were arrested after meeting in Yerwada prison before committing online scams together. Traditional criminals provide cybercrime networks with bank accounts, SIM cards and local relays to move or withdraw stolen funds. Another case involving over 110 million rupees led to the arrest of nine suspects and the freezing of 26.5 million rupees, with the application of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
