Why Circle is spending $400M to fix the last mile holding stablecoins back from real-world payouts

Circle has agreed to acquire Tazapay for $400 million in stock to address the last-mile problem in stablecoin payments. Tazapay brings more than 60 banking and fintech partners along with payout rails covering over 100 markets. Tazapay processed over $25 billion in annualized payment volume as of July 2026, with stablecoins accounting for approximately 60% of transaction volume. The acquisition would give Circle more direct control over fiat conversion and local delivery to recipients. The transaction is expected to close in 2027, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals.
