American households grew richer by approximately $12.8 trillion between April and June, according to the Federal Reserve’s latest Z.1 Financial Accounts report published on September 11. Total household and nonprofit net worth now stands at roughly $183 trillion, a dramatic rebound from Q1 2026 when net worth barely budged, rising only $113 billion. This quarterly increase nearly doubled the $7.1 trillion gain recorded in Q2 2025, driven primarily by equity market performance while real estate gains provided a floor. The surge in household wealth is expected to support consumer spending, which accounts for approximately two-thirds of US economic output.
