China’s export growth accelerates 25% in August as high-tech and auto shipments surge

China posted its strongest export month of the year in August, with outbound shipments climbing 25% year-on-year to $401.44 billion, driven by semiconductors, high-tech products, and vehicles. Exports to the United States surged 34.4% to $42.5 billion. China’s trade surplus reached $119.09 billion in August, up from $112.5 billion the prior month. The figures highlight the economy’s growing reliance on external demand as domestic consumption and investment remain weak. Chinese automakers, particularly BYD, are aggressively expanding into Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
