China records $119B trade surplus in August as streak above $100B continues

China recorded a $119 billion trade surplus in August, marking the third consecutive month above the $100 billion threshold. This performance puts the country on track to exceed $1 trillion in annual surplus. From January through August, the cumulative surplus already exceeds $806 billion with four months remaining. This momentum is driven by the rise of high-tech exports, particularly semiconductors and electric vehicles. The European Union and the United States continue to impose significant tariffs on Chinese products, while domestic consumption remains sluggish and the property sector weighs on household confidence.
