Barcelona’s transfer negotiations for Julian Alvarez stall dramatically

Barcelona submitted an offer of approximately 100 million euros for Argentine striker Julian Alvarez in May 2026. Atlético Madrid flatly rejected the bid and filed formal tapping-up complaints with FIFA and the RFEF, stating there is ‘zero consideration’ of selling to Barcelona, a direct La Liga rival. Alvarez’s contract with Atlético runs until June 2030 with a reported release clause of 500 million euros, five times Barcelona’s offer. The player, who publicly confirmed his desire to leave after Argentina’s World Cup victory on June 22, 2026, has returned to training with Atlético Madrid after the summer transfer window closed without a deal being reached.
