Meta has launched a bill payments feature on WhatsApp in India, giving users access to 22,722 registered billers across 30 service categories. The feature integrates with Bharat Connect, India’s centralized bill payment system, and will roll out gradually to Android and iOS users over the coming weeks. The platform already boasts over 500 million users in India, providing unmatched distribution compared to dedicated payment apps like PhonePe or Google Pay. Accepted payment methods include UPI as well as credit and debit cards, covering the full range of financial obligations from electricity and water to loans, insurance, and credit card bills.
