Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has formalized new rules called « Travel Rule for Digital Assets », set to take effect on February 27, 2027. Digital asset service providers will be required to verify ownership or control of self-hosted wallets involved in certain transactions, collect information about their clients and counterparties, and retain transaction data for at least five years. The stated objective is to reduce money laundering and terrorism financing risks on crypto platforms. According to the Financial Action Task Force, 83 % of surveyed jurisdictions have already adopted legislation implementing the Travel Rule, but explicit verification of self-hosted wallet ownership remains a rare requirement, now imposed by the European Union, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Dubai and Thailand.
